The GIPI Manufacturing
facility is located at Sohar Industrial Area which is the cornerstone of the Government’s industrialization strategy. Located some 200 km north of Muscat, is rapidly becoming the industrial hub of the country. Steps taken by the Government include, setting up a port in the vicinity of the area, providing soft loans and tax holidays for projects, making available inexpensive land and setting up adequate social infrastructure such as hospitals, schools and university. Most importantly, the Government has backed its own strategy by promoting a series of mega projects planned, over US$30 billion worth are expected to be situated in Sohar. Sohar is within 500km radius of major customers making it economical for road and sea transportation options to serve GCC and the global market.
Plant construction gained momentum in April
2008 following a groundbreaking ceremony
attended by over 180 local and international
dignitaries. Construction and Machine
installation completed in November 2009 and
Production for the first phase started in
January 2010.
